2005/06/02
On June 2, 2005, Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov signed the "Certificate for the Exchange of the Instrument of Ratification for the Supplementary Agreement on the Eastern Section of the China-Russia Boundary Line between the People's Republic of China and the Russian Federation" on behalf of their respective governments in Vladivostok - a city in the Far East of Russia and exchanged the instrument of ratification and the Certificate.
Li Zhaoxing said that the signing of the supplementary agreement and the exchange of the instrument of ratification indicates that the agreement has entered into force and the 4,300km-odd boundary lines between China and Russia have been delimited in the form of laws. This is of major significance to keeping the neighborly friendliness between China and Russia, to developing strategic cooperation and to maintaining the peace and stability of the region and the world. The boundary line between China and Russia will become the links of peace, friendliness and cooperation between the two peoples and lay a firmer basis for the ever expanding and deepening cooperation of mutual benefits in all fields between the two countries.
Lavrov noted that the "Instrument of Ratification for the Supplementary Agreement on the Eastern Section of the China-Russia Boundary Line" is a document of major significance and important meaning. The signing and exchange of it marks that the boundary line issue of China and Russia has been resolved once for all. This is in the fundamental interests of the two countries and peoples.
